"Wish You Were Here 50" に含まれるライブ録音。 1975年4月26日のライブなので、9月に発売される "Wish You Were Here" より前ということになります。 Pink Floyd は、発表前の曲をライブで完成度を上げていく手法をとっていたそうです。 ただし、ライブのブートレグが出回り、アルバムの制作に悪影響が出たため、これ以降こういう手法はやめてしまったようですが。
いずれにしても、バンドが一番脂がのっていたのが "Wish You Were Here" 前後だということを考えると、1975年のタイミングのライブはバンドとしても最高のパフォーマンスだと言えます。 また、曲としても、"Meddle"〜"The Dark Side of The Moon"〜"Wish You Were Here"〜"Animals" までの曲が含まれ、充実しています。
前半は、新曲でかためられ、後半はこの時点の最新アルバム "The Dark Side of The Moon" を全曲演奏、しかもアルバムの曲順も同じという再現ライブ調に加えて、アンコールに "Meddle" から "Echoes"、という最強の選曲です。 後半の "The Dark Side of The Moon" 以降はコーラスやサックスが入っており、意外と音楽性に富んでいる感じ。 一方で前半は4人の演奏が基本で、ハード・ロック色が強くなっているのが分かります。 実際、アルバムでも、"Wish You Were Here" から "Animals" あたりは、アート・ロック、プログレッシブ・ロックが影を潜めて、ハード・ロック路線になってました。 その方が好きですけど。
最初の2曲、"Raving and Drooling" と "You've Got To Be Crazy" はいわくつきの曲で、先ほど言ったライブ・ブートレグで、新アルバムの内容が一部暴露されてしまったこともあり、この2曲は "Wish You Were Here" には入らなかったようです。 後ほど "Raving and Drooling" は "Sheep" にタイトルと歌詞を変えて、"You've Got To Be Crazy" は "Dogs" にタイトルを変えて、"Animals" に収録されました。
