American Dreamers: Voice Of Hope, Music of Freedom / John Daversa Big Band Featuring DACA Artists (2018)

DACA とは  Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals のことで、16歳未満でアメリカに不法移民の子として連れて来られた子供を保護するためのプログラムです。
この DACA の対象となった人を "Dreamer" と呼びます。
このプログラムはオバマ民主党政権下で成立した、実に民主党らしい政策でしたが、例に漏れずトランプ共和党政権下で廃止されそうになります。

このアルバムは明らかに DACA プログラムを支援する目的で作られています。
アルバムには18タイトル入っていますが、内半分は DACA Dreamers のコメントです。
メキシコ、ベネズエラ、パキスタン、セネガル、ブラジル等々の国から違法入国した家族の子供が、自らのストーリーを語っています。
みんな何らかの楽器の演奏者で、ジャズへの想いを語ると同時に、そういう機会を与えてくれた DACA プログラムへ感謝を述べています。

曲は、ほとんどがカバー曲で、アメリカや移民についての曲です。
James Brown の "Living in America" に始まり、Cole Porter の "Don't Fence Me In"、Led Zeppelin の "Immigrant Song" のラップバージョン、"Stars and Stripes Forever"、ウエストサイドストーリーから "America"、古典の "America the Beautiful" へと続きます。

John Daversa はトランペット奏者でかつマイアミ大学で音楽を教えている教師でもあります。そのキャリアの中で、何人かの DACA Dreamers に出会い、興味を持ったのかもしれません。
アルバムのアイデアはプロデューサーのベーシスト Kabir Sehgal と 弁護士の Doug Davis がもたらし、John Daversa Big Band により形になりました。

Some of the countries include Belize, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Pakistan, Senegal, and Venezuela.
Dreamers sang, performed poetry, and even rapped.
