Gilberto Gil 来日記念 & Sergio Mendes 追悼ということで聴いてみました。
"Aquele Abraço Tour 2024" ということで16年ぶりの来日なんだそうです。ロームシアター京都、めぐろパーシモンホール、高崎芸術劇場を巡ります。9/26の京都は行っときゃよかったかなぁ。
Sergio Mendes は9月の頭に83歳で亡くなりました。結構最近まで最前線でアルバム出してましたよね、かなりクオリティ高い。
ブラジルで活躍していた Gilberto Gil がアメリカ市場向けに作ったアルバムが、この "Nightingale" です。
なので、西海岸に住んでいる Sergio Mendes を頼ったんでしょうか。あるいは Sergio Mendes が Gilberto Gil を誘ったのかもしれません。
驚くことに、ミュージシャンは、ブラジルのミュージシャンではなく、アメリカのフュージョン系の一流メンバーを集めています。
Lee Ritenour, Michael Sembello, Don Grusin, Alex Acuna....
だから聴きやすいんでしょうね。トロピカル・フュージョン、といった趣です。
ほとんどは、Gilberto Gil の既存曲の撮り直し。半分くらいは英語の歌詞になっています。
レゲエ調あり、サンバあり、アフリカンあり、様々な音楽のミックスになっていますが、全てがゴリゴリではなく、心地よくブレンドされている感じでしょうか。フュージョン・ミュージシャンと Sergio Mendes のバランス感覚の結実ですね。
Gilberto Gil という名前は何となく聞いたことはありましたが、MPB、Caetano Veloso、ボサノヴァといったカテゴリーという先入観の中、あまり触れずにいたような気がします。
このアルバムは、全くその先入観から外れたものでした。トロピカル、明るい、ポップな感じが気に入りました。
